MNH not so bad after all!

February 28, 2008

In the previous semester we had our Basic Electronics paper and the book prescribed was Integrated Electronics by Jacob Millman & Christos C. Halkias, and it was a nightmare for us all as we believe in the concept of one-night-stands before exams! So now well into the next semester, I’ve finally become fond of the book and what can I say…they surely are an authority over the subject of Electronics. I even read the TTL Gates from the same book as it made a better read than the book prescribed for the same.

Kudos Mr. Millman and Mr. Halkias!!!

The media might be crying foul over Dhoni’s remarks about the responsibility of the seniors, but in my opinion the Indian captain has got it right. Players like Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag etc. are like stuck, not being able to free themselves and score runs on will as once they used to do. The cheap wickets of the openers costs a hell lot more on the team as it builds pressure on the batting team, and pressure is what modern day cricket all about.

What was heartening to see in yesterday’s match was that Indians didn’t give up once the going got real tough. First the excellent partnership between Dhoni and Gambhir that stabilized the Indian innings, then the fluent Gambhir Century and the partnerships between Utthappa and Gambhir, Utthappa and Pathan and Utthappa and Harbhajan were really a treat to watch.

Though the bowlers were more of a disappointment, they did well in the mid overs and the death to restrict the Kangaroos who seemed to be heading for 350 odd or so. If India do reach the finals it will be interesting to see how we handle Ponting whose lush century seems to marking a new form surge of his. For the moment though, looking forward to an Indian victory in the next match against Sri Lanka.

Lifehouse…

February 25, 2008

Now tired from the likes of Pink Floyd and Radiohead I was desperately looking for some new band to listen to. Just when all the doors seemed to close, came the song Everything by Lifehouse and it simply made feel great. Its a really sweet song especially when it reaches the You’re all I need… part.

Give it a try.

A Single for the Dogs!!!

February 24, 2008

Ever heard of singles for dogs and I  mean it?? In December 2007 an album recorded in frequencies which cant be heard by human ears was released in New Zealand so as to raise funds for the Royal New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) .

Its music video featured the Polynensian Hip Hop star Dei Hamo. It was the Christmas number one song in New Zealand!

Now thats weird!

Measurements….

February 21, 2008

You measure distance in meters, time in seconds, mass in kilograms, intensity in candelas, current in Amperes, Inductance in Henry and the list is simply inexhaustive….and then I came about this in today’s newspapers: what about beauty?? How do we measure beauty?? I know most will think in the lines of 36-24-36 but no it was once measured in your ability to launch ships!!

Couldn’t get it na? Well beauty was measured in millihelens i.e. 1 milliHelen means that you are 1/1000 times beautiful than Helen of Troy who is also known as the “Face that launched a thousand ships”. That is if you could cause the launching of one shape for you it would mean that your beauty is 1millihelen!

But can we really measure beauty? No, obviously not as beauty is a quality and qualities can’t be measured. Yes beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, but the real beauty is what lies inside you, your soul and your heart!
